Sure. The opening box would typically be done in the game-engine directly, through a regular animation, but you could do it with a particle (it'd be more tedious to setup), with planar aligned quads you'd rotate along an axis for the opening sides.

And the fountain of boxes looks like a mesh renderer on top of a simple physics evolver ?
